Find your library style. No matter your reading preferences, the books you choose to keep in your home should hold special meaning for you — books that are only so-so aren’t worth making room for on your shelves. Once you’ve decluttered your library, it’s time to decide on a sorting method.
Simplify your color scheme. Try to limit your room’s palette to no more than three colors for the entire space. “It’s best to keep it relatively monochromatic to help it feel less cluttered,” says Green. “Game rooms are busy in themselves with all of the entertainment items, so you want the rest of the space to feel quiet.”
Comfortable area for conversation. Seating in drawing rooms should be arranged with group conversations in mind. Place furniture in a way that people can gather for chatting and no one will feel left out. This may mean pulling out those extra stools and ottomans, and chairs from other rooms, to create conversation areas. There can be more than one grouping.
The open living room took the spot of the old kitchen. An 8-by-8-foot window flanked by glass-pane doors provides views of the backyard and floods the space with light, which is amplified by the maple ceiling panels and hickory floors.
